Wayne Kramer, a co-founding member of legendary proto-punk rock pioneers The MC5 and a 2020 Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame nominee, will perform a FREE concert with a lineup of local, formerly incarcerated musicians on Monday, January 20th – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Arizona – at downtown Phoenix’s First Church UCC, 1407 N. 2nd St. Seating is first-come, first-served.

Kramer, the founder of Jail Guitar Doors USA– an organization that conducts music workshops and donates musical equipment to prisons in Arizona and across the country – is headlining his KICK OUT THE JAMS… FOR JUSTICE! concert starting at 7:30 p.m. in advance of ReFraming Justice Day 2020 (#RFJDAY2020), presented by American Friends Service Committee-Arizona (AFSC-AZ), where Wayne will also perform the national anthem.

Performing a set-list that includes The MC5’s seminal proto-punk rock classic “Kick Out the Jams,” Kramer will be joined by a core band that includes Jason East (guitar), Jay Kearny (bass), Tom Whiting (drums) and John Fabricius (guitar), the latter also a member of AFSC-AZ’s RFJ Leaders. Special guest musicians who are formerly incarcerated will join Wayne and the band throughout the set.

Grace Gámez, Ph.D, the program director and founder of AFSC-AZ’s ReFraming Justice Project, will also moderate a discussion prior to Wayne’s set on the meditative and transformative power of the arts inside state and federal prisons. In addition to Wayne and John, panelists include Adrienne Kitcheyan and Vivian Nelson, both of whom participated in the performing arts while incarcerated at the state’s only prison for women in Perryville.
